Build an approved-document AI agent or a multi-step conversation?
A policy lookup agent grounded in approved SharePoint material has a different design problem from a service conversation that needs topics, variables, actions, and escalation. The Microsoft learning paths describe different outputs. Choose by the interaction you need, then verify tenant, data permissions, and software entitlements for exercises or intended deployment.
01For policy lookup, start from approved knowledge
02For a service flow, map the conversation
03Separate learning access from deployable access
Editorial decision aid: the steps describe choosing training, not a promised course exercise.
How to choose
For policy lookup, start from approved knowledge
The Microsoft 365 path covers Copilot Chat and SharePoint knowledge agents, including purpose, instructions, sources, and tests. Inventory the current policy set, owners, and permissions first. The course exercise requires access to the learner’s own Copilot and data environment.
For a service flow, map the conversation
Copilot Studio adds topics, entities, variables, actions, and handoff. Use it when an assistant must gather information or route an exception, not merely answer from documents. Map where a person takes over and what the assistant must refuse or leave unanswered.
Separate learning access from deployable access
A trial can help test a lesson but does not necessarily let a team publish or run a service. Confirm licenses, environment, permissions, connectors, and an operational owner before committing to a build. A free lesson is not the same as a free deployed service.
Fictional nonprofit example
Fictional scenario: a community clinic needs volunteers to find the current mileage policy, while its referral desk needs intake with a staff handoff. The team tests a policy answer against its source and rehearses a missing-information case that should route to a person.
Before you enroll
Does the need involve document lookup or a multi-step intake and handoff?
Which Copilot or Copilot Studio licenses and tenant permissions are required?
Can the learner use an approved SharePoint source in the exercise?
Does the advertised trial support publishing, or only course practice?
Choose knowledge grounding for policy lookup and conversation design for intake and routing. Check permissions and deployment entitlements separately from course access.

Four modules explain approved-source agents, select prebuilt research/writing/analysis agents, create and test an agent, and manage sharing. The path states basic Microsoft365 functional experience and proficient general IT understanding
Six modules create a graphical Copilot Studio agent, author topics and trigger phrases, capture entities and variables, add flow actions and escalation, and apply design checks. The current introduction distinguishes standard from newer harnesses. Copilot Studio access is explicitly required
