Decision guide

Learning unit, accessibility adaptation, or AI-literacy introduction?

An organization may need a complete learning unit, an accessible adaptation of existing materials, or a short introduction to AI literacy. These are different scopes. A course outline and assessment require instructional design. Adapting source content for reading level or assistive technology requires access-focused review. An introductory class builds basic familiarity but may not create a full learning program.

03For literacy, choose a proportionate session
Editorial decision aid: the steps describe choosing training, not a promised course exercise.

How to choose

For a complete unit, align objectives and practice

Look for learner needs, outcomes, activities, rubrics, feedback, and a way to evaluate the unit. Educator-focused examples may transfer to volunteer or staff learning, but check the target audience and whether the course addresses the work your learners must perform.

For accessibility, adapt and test the material

Accessibility routes may adapt reading level, cultural context, layout, or voice interaction. Confirm which assistive technologies and languages are covered, then have intended users test the result. A generated simplified text is not automatically accurate, culturally appropriate, or accessible.

For literacy, choose a proportionate session

A short AI-literacy introduction can help staff refine prompts or create study materials. Microsoft training may use Planner, Forms, Word, PowerPoint, Teams, or Copilot, so verify licenses and environment. Compare a single-session introduction with longer learning-design or course-building routes by expected output.

Fictional nonprofit example

Fictional scenario: a disability-rights nonprofit needs an accessible volunteer module, a plain-language version, and a short staff orientation. The learning lead checks objectives and assessment, tests reading adaptations with intended learners, and confirms that staff can access the tools used in training.

Before you enroll

Choose course design for a full unit, accessibility practice for an adaptation, and AI-literacy instruction for orientation. Test the final material with intended learners.
